The parish of Santo António will "pay tribute" to musical artists by giving its benches a new look on 1 October, to mark International Music Day. The aim is to raise awareness of Portuguese-language music.

"As a way of paying tribute to this day and the artists who give it its reason for existence, the parish of Santo António will redecorate all of its 200 garden benches, right in the heart of Lisbon, to help visitors learn more about Portuguese-language music", says the Lisbon Cultural Agenda in a note.

The institution explains that each of the benches will be dedicated to an artist. It will also be possible to see a photo of the artist as well as three QR codes so that visitors can open and listen to the music on their mobile phones.

"Rui Veloso, Xutos & Pontapés, Vinicius de Moraes, António Carlos Jobim and Amália Rodrigues will be sitting alongside others such as Áurea, António Vitorino de Almeida, Van Zee, Caetano Veloso and Richie Campbell", it is said.

The initiative will be held on the garden benches until the end of October.
