“With four days of programming, eight locations and a diversity of content designed to mobilise the creative community”, ModaLisboa, which takes place under the theme “Singular”, “is the reflection of an increasingly deep intersection between Fashion, the city and all its cultural spheres”, reads a statement from the organisation about the 63rd edition, which runs until Sunday.
Like previous editions, the 63rd edition also opens with “Fast Talks”, “to discuss the Fashion system and its intersections with contemporary social and technological challenges”.
Moderated by presenter Rui Maria Pego, the two debates in this edition, which will take place at the renovated MUDE, “focus on the transversality of technology for the practice of Fashion — a consequence of the same transversality applied to contemporary thinking in society — and the crucial role of Creative Industries in social regeneration, in the redefinition of identity and in the strategic vision of a city”.
On the same day, the Beat by be@t programme exhibition will also be inaugurated at MUDE, where visitors will be able to “visit four circular and innovative textile projects developed by teams made up of Fashion Designers and small and medium-sized companies”.
Also today, the exhibition "Workstation New Media" will open to the public at the National Society of Fine Arts, which "explores the intersections between Digital Art, New Media and Fashion", curated by the ZABRA post-human artistic research and creation center.
The fashion shows will begin on Friday, with the presentation, at MUDE, of the proposals of the ten participants in the Sangue Novo competition, aimed at finalists of higher education courses in Fashion Design from national and international schools and young designers at the beginning of their careers.
Dri Martins, Duarte Jorge, Francisca Nabinho, Gabriel Silva Barros, Gonçalo Oliveira, Ihanny Luquessa, Inês Arthayett, Lolo, Toque Amargo and Loid will compete for the five places in the final of the competition, scheduled for the 64th edition of ModaLisboa, in March next year.
Also on Friday, the collections of João Magalhães and Constança Entrudo will be presented at Cometa 10 and LISA, respectively, and the performance “Todas as Cartas e Amor São Ridículas” by João Telmo will be presented at Palácio Chiado.
The shows are accessible by invitation only, but the performance is free, subject to capacity.
Most of the shows will take place on Saturday and Sunday at Pátio da Galé. Luís Buchinho, Dino Alves, Gonçalo Peixoto, Luís Carvalho, Ricardo Andrez, Kolovrat, HIBU, Behén, Carlos Gil and Arndes are some of the designers and brands that will present collections, in an edition that will be marked by the debut of footwear designer Luís Onofre at ModaLisboa.
Luís Onofre had been linked to Portugal Fashion for twenty years, but, given the cancellation of Porto Fashion Week, he will now be included in the ModaLisboa calendar.
The exhibitions will be open until Sunday and admission is free. The Fast Talks are also free, but subject to prior registration.
Until Sunday, visitors can also visit the Portuguese Design pop-up store, at Locke de Santa Joana, which “maintains its mission of creating opportunities to sell local products, made in a fair and responsible way”.
ModaLisboa is co-organised by the ModaLisboa Association and the Lisbon City Council.
