The flight was welcomed by Cape Verdean authorities, including the Minister of Tourism and Transport of Cape Verde, Carlos Santos and the CEO of Cabo Verde Airports, Jorge Benchimol Duarte. In May, the airline announced the launch of this new route from Ilha do Sal to Lisbon and Porto, with around 50,000 seats available for the winter season.

easyJet reveals today that it will extend its operations in Cape Verde until the summer of 2025 from both Portuguese cities. Flights for the summer season will be available to book in the coming weeks.

Currently, flights will have 4 weekly frequencies (Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays) from Lisbon and 2 (Wednesdays and Saturdays) from Porto. Thus, easyJet now offers 32 different destinations from Lisbon and 29 from Porto, increasingly expanding its offer.

Flights are provided by A320 Neo aircraft, for this reason, easyJet will base 3 NEO aircraft in Lisbon and 2 in Porto, during this winter, which demonstrates the relevance of sustainability issues for the company.

With the growing demand for travel to tropical destinations, easyJet responds to the interest of its passengers with the introduction of these new routes, offering affordable fares to a destination with great connections with the Portuguese and an endless cultural offer.

José Lopes, General Director of easyJet Portugal, says: "It is with great satisfaction that we mark the start of flights for new connections from Portugal to Cape Verde, through easyJet. With 4 weekly flights from Lisbon and 2 from Porto, Sal Island is closer than ever. The company continues providing trips at unbeatable prices, with customer satisfaction being its main priority.

“The implementation of these new connections demonstrates the commitment and effort that easyJet has with Portugal in maintaining its growth, offering solid alternatives to reach a destination so beloved by the Portuguese and with a great historical connection.

“This is yet another move by easyJet to add Cape Verde to its portfolio of routes and make this destination better known, with an immediate positive impact on the economy of both countries, through the arrival of tourists and the creation of indirect jobs.

“We also cannot fail to praise, and thank, all the effort and commitment dedicated to this project by the Government of Cape Verde, in the person of Mr. Minister of Tourism and Transport of Cape Verde, Dr. Carlos Santos, the Vinci teams – ANA Aeroportos and Cabo Verde Airports – and the easyJet team involved in the creation of these new routes”.

Minister of Tourism and Transport of Cape Verde, Carlos Santos, said: “This is the inauguration of a new era of tourism in Cape Verde, as, with the entry of the operator easyJet, one of the largest low-cost operators in Europe, it will contribute to bringing in a clientele with a profile completely different from what we are used to. , meaning an increase in demand, which will inevitably imply market adaptation, that is, a greater diversification of our offer and which will allow many of our entrepreneurs to be able to develop their businesses and investments due to this profile of a differentiated tourist who will arrive in Cape Verde.

Therefore, I believe that we are opening a new page here, also creating different opportunities for our businesspeople, for tour operators and, in short, for the sustainability of our tourism and, in this way, contributing to the diversification and growth of our economy.”

CEO - Cabo Verde Airports, Jorge Benchimol Duarte, said: "The start of easyJet's operations is another important step towards “positive mobility”, defended within the VINCI group, responsible for managing the airports of Lisbon, Porto and Sal, which reinforces our commitment to contributing strongly to the development new routes and improved connectivity between Cape Verde and the world"
