According to the proposed municipal tax package for 2025, the executive led by Carlos Carreiras (PSD) approved lowering the IMI rate to 0.33%, referring to 2024, and to be charged next year, when this year the rate charged was of 0.34%, referring to the previous year (which can vary between 0.30 and 0.45%).
The municipality maintains a fixed deduction from the calculated amount of IMI to be paid, according to the number of dependents – 30 euros for one, 70 for two and 140 for three or more – and decided to increase the rate applicable to degraded urban buildings, increase the rate for urban buildings that have been vacant for more than a year, or are in ruins, as well as vacant properties in areas of urban pressure.
According to a note from the city hall, this additional drop represents "an annual saving of more than 1.5 million euros for residents” and the failure to apply the maximum allowed by law “means that 26.5 million euros remain in the pockets of citizens” while maintaining fixed deductions represents “an annual saving of over 565 thousand euros for families”.
“With this new tax reduction, this executive fulfils the promise he made to the residents of Cascais to reduce IPTU to minimum values. With this fiscal package, we continue the path of reducing taxes to guarantee greater liquidity for families and greater incentives for the development of economic activity in the municipality”, said the vice-mayor, Nuno Piteira Lopes, quoted in the note.
