“The drops will occur twice. On Saturday we have drops of the order of 4 to 6 degrees mainly in the north and centre and on Sunday the drop will be widespread and we are talking about drops varying between 2 to 0 degrees”, said the meteorologist from the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA).

According to Ângela Lourenço, temperatures will be below 20 degrees, with differences between the northernmost regions and those closest to the coast.

“For example, on Sunday, in Bragança we will have a maximum of 10 degrees and a minimum of 04, in Guarda a maximum of 07 and a minimum of 01 and in Faro a maximum of 17 degrees”, she said.

According to Ângela Lourenço, fog is forecast for today in mainland Portugal in some regions and precipitation is expected to occur mainly in Minho and Douro Litoral.

“Tomorrow {Saturday] we will experience the passage of a cold frontal surface at night and after the passage of the cold frontal surface, we will see an increase in wind intensity and a drop in temperature. The air will be colder and temperatures will begin to drop”, she indicated.

Temperatures are expected to remain low until at least Wednesday.

“Perhaps on Thursday, there may be a slight increase or stabilisation of temperature values. Regarding precipitation, on Saturday it may occur north of the Montejunto-Estrela mountain system and on the other days until the 11th, it should not rain. From the 12th [Thursday] there is some uncertainty associated with the position of a depression that could affect us next week”.

Angela Lourenço also said that until Thursday there will be frost formation in the interior regions.

“During the weekend we will also have, especially on Sunday, an increase in sea agitation, with waves of 4 to 4.5 meters predicted between Cabo Carvoeiro and Cabo Raso,” he said.

Due to strong maritime unrest, IPMA issued a yellow warning for the districts of Lisbon and Leiria between midnight on Sunday and midnight on Monday.
