According to data released by the National Statistics Institute (INE) — which refers to October — the remuneration index in this sector jumped 11.1%, in the annual comparison. Employment in the sector also accelerated.

“In October, employment and remuneration indices showed increases of 0.5 percentage points and 2.3 percentage points, for annual growth of 3.3% and 11.1%”, informs the statistics office, in a highlight published this morning.

With regard to salaries, it is important to note that the index also increased by 3.0% compared to September, and 10.2% in the last 12 months. The employment index rose 0.7% quarter-on-quarter and 2.9% in the last 12 months.

This is one of the sectors that has been most affected by labour shortages, which is why employers have turned to foreign workers. Persistent visa delays have, however, hampered this attraction of personnel.

These increases in employment and wages were recorded in a month in which production in the sector in question accelerated. “The construction production index increased 3.9% in October, a variation 1.6 percentage points higher than that observed in the previous month”, notes the IBGE.

In the construction of buildings, the increase was 4.9%, corresponding to an acceleration of 1.8 percentage points. While in civil engineering, the increase was 2.3%, 1.3 percentage points more than the increase recorded in the previous month.
