The construction of residential buildings (and other properties) was the sector of activity that recorded the greatest growth in new companies in the first six months of this year, reveals the Informa D&B Barometer.

Real estate activities have been falling for two years, with fewer companies being created in this field. On the other hand, there are fewer businesses to close and fewer insolvencies in both construction and real estate.

During the first half of 2024, 27,263 new companies were created in Portugal, a number that represents a 3% decline in the formation of companies (-844 incorporations) compared to the same period in 2023. This trend has already been seen in the two quarters of this year, highlights Informa D&B in a statement sent to newsrooms.

What immediately stands out is that the construction of buildings (residential and non-residential) is the activity with the “largest number of new company formations” this semester (2,049 company formations), also registering the greatest growth compared to the same semester of the previous year (+188; +10% company formations)”, they state.

“Also responsible for many of the new companies in recent periods, entrepreneurship in the real estate sector has been falling for four consecutive semesters, with 179 fewer company incorporations (-6.7% incorporations) than in the same period last year", reads if in publication.
