In a statement sent to the Lusa news agency, Campo Maior City Council explains that the work is 3.1 kilometres long, connecting the EN371, EN373, EN243 and Regional Road (ER) 371.

A source from the municipality explained that the investment makes it possible to ensure the connection between the border of Retiro, Elvas and Portalegre.

The variant, financed by the Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR), also represents, according to the city hall, an improvement in accessibility to the industrial area of the border village.

The work, he specified, even had the objectives of “bringing the Campo Maior Industrial Zone closer to the main axes that constitute the fundamental network for the transport of people and goods”, as well as “reinforcing road safety”.

It will also allow “a reduction in road traffic” within the town, “improving urban and territorial dynamics”.

The opening ceremony to traffic on the western variant will be held, according to a statement from Infraestruturas de Portugal (IP), at the Fonte Nova Tourist Office, starting at 4:15 pm.
