Until Sunday, the town's municipal market brings together more than three dozen local producers to live up to its title and promote the region's most famous delicacy, organized by the city council.

With free entry, the 46th edition of the Celorico da Beira Cheese Fair opens at 9 am and the first day is marked by cheese and regional product tastings, in addition to the traditional producers' lunch.

During the three days, there is street and children's entertainment, popular and traditional music, crafts exhibition, 'showcooking' sessions, flavor workshops, lectures and walks.

Delfins (today), Os Quatro e Meia (Saturday) and Sons do Minho (Sunday) are the headliners for three nights that end with several DJs. There is an entrance fee only for the first two shows, which cost five euros.

The Serra da Estrela cheese fair cycle continues on Carnival weekend, in Seia, with the 48th edition of an initiative that pays tribute to local shepherds, producers and cheesemakers.

From March 1st to 4th, the market in the mountain town will welcome around 50 exhibitors, including shepherds, traditional cheese factories, DOP cheese producers and manufacturing units, as well as sausages, rye bread, Dão wine – from the Serra da Estrela sub-region –, among other local products.

A Pastor's Farm, an educational garden, the Serra da Estrela sheep and goat competition, promoted by Ancose - National Association of Serra da Estrela Sheep Breeders, a Serra da Estrela dog show, promoted by Licrase - League of Serra da Estrela Dog Breeders and Friends, are other initiatives scheduled by the City Hall.

There will also be gastronomy, tastings of Serra da Estrela DOP cheese with pairings of Dão wines and curd cheese, milking demonstrations and ‘showcooking’ sessions.

Also noteworthy, on March 3rd, starting at 2 pm, is the live production of the “largest sheep’s cheese in Seia”, a task that will bring together producers from the municipality.

The cheese produced in 2024 will be tasted right after the opening of this year's event, on March 1st, at 10 am.

On March 2nd, cheese is king in Mosteiro-Penaverde, in the municipality of Aguiar da Beira, with the 11th edition of the Shepherd and Cheese Festival, organized by the municipality.

The day includes a walk at 9 am, street entertainment, a livestock fair, a local produce market and a sheep and goat competition. At 12:30, the traditional cheese show and tasting takes place, followed by a regional lunch open to all visitors.

Fornos de Algodres is the next destination on the Serra da Estrela cheese fair route in the Guarda district. The initiative, which is now in its 46th edition, takes place from March 21 to 23 in the renovated municipal market.

The festival's schedule has not yet been released by the city hall, which is organizing it and has opened registration for exhibitors until March 2.

It is up to Gouveia to close the cycle in the Guarda district, with its “Cheese Market” which will take place from March 28 to 30 in the municipal market of the ‘garden city’.

More than a month away, the local government has yet to release the schedule for an event dedicated to the “appreciation and commercialization” of the main gastronomic icon of the mountain region.

The demarcated region for the production of Serra da Estrela cheese covers the municipalities of Aguiar da Beira, Celorico da Beira, Fornos de Algodres, Gouveia, Guarda, Manteigas, Seia and Trancoso (Guarda district), Covilhã (Castelo Branco), Carregal do Sal, Mangualde, Nelas, Penalva do Castelo, Tondela and Viseu (Viseu), as well as Arganil, Oliveira do Hospital and Tábua (Coimbra).
