Of the 50 most sought-after municipalities for buying a house in Portugal (and which have a supply of more than 500 properties for sale), 20 are located in Greater Lisbon and completely dominate the top ten positions in this ranking.
Amadora is the most sought-after municipality of all for purchasing housing, followed by Odivelas, Oeiras, Vila Franca de Xira and Loures, according to idealista/data data for the last quarter of 2024. The municipality of Lisbon was the eighth most searched in this period.
You have to go down to 12th position to find the first municipality in the Porto district most sought after for buying a house: Valongo. In addition to this, the Invicta territory has only five other municipalities among the most researched: Paredes, Maia, Gondomar, Matosinhos and Vila do Conde.
As we move down the top 50 most sought-after municipalities to buy a house, we see that the locations are diversifying to other districts and islands, such as Aveiro, Braga, Faro, Leiria, Madeira Island, Santarém and São Miguel Island (Azores). And three major absences in this ranking are obvious: the municipalities of Porto, Faro and Funchal are not among those that generate the most interest in purchasing housing.
