According to ECO, Madeira's airports will now have a direct connection to New York, from 8 June, ANA-Aeroportos de Portugal announced on 28 March, highlighting the increase in the number of passengers in the region.

In a statement, the company that manages airports in Portugal announced that the air connection between Madeira and New York will be provided by United Airlines, which will also begin operating at Madeira airport.

“With the inauguration on 8 June of the new New York (Newark) – Madeira route, United Airlines becomes the only American company to operate at the five ANA airports, now with new routes to Faro and Madeira, which begin in the summer of 2025”, the note states.

In addition to the direct connection to New York, Madeira will also have direct destinations Nantes (France), London (United Kingdom), Edinburgh (Scotland), Shannon (Republic of Ireland), Milan (Italy), Brussels (Belgium), Nuremberg (Germany) and Bournemouth (United Kingdom), indicated ANA.

In the note, ANA also highlights the fact that, in 2024, Funchal and Porto Santo airports registered more than five million passengers and recorded an 8% growth in the current winter season. It also mentions an investment of more than 50 million euros that is being made in Porto Santo Airport, with the construction of a new terminal that will double operational capacity.
