In March, several depressions affected the weather, causing rain, particularly in central and southern mainland Portugal.
In the Barlavento Algarvio river basin, the amount of water increased from 20.7% in February to 57.5% in March, but it still remains the one with the smallest amount of water.
Storage by river basin was higher than the March averages (1990/91 to 2023/24) except in the Mira and Ribeiras do Algarve basins.
Of the 60 monitored reservoirs, 50 have water availability greater than 80% of the total volume and one less than 40%.
According to SNIRH data available today, the Barlavento (57.5%) and Mira (57.9%) basins had less water at the end of March.
The Tagus and Guadiana basins had the largest volume of water, with 97.3% and 96.9%, respectively, followed by the Mondego (92.7%), Oeste (92.5%), Douro (89.8%), Cávado (83.5%), Sado (82.6%), Lima (82.2%), Arade (82.1%) and Ave (76.9%).
Each hydrographic basin may correspond to more than one reservoir.
