Founder of the Azores Fringe Festival, Terry Costa, states that this edition welcomes artists from several islands, as well as from mainland Portugal and several foreign countries.
The first opening weekend includes the Fringe Fair, crafts, painting, sculpture, exhibitions, workshops and talks, book launches and the performance ‘AMIJIK’, a co-production of ‘Cães do Mar’ and ‘Seja Dono do Seu Nariz’, which closes the first night at the Madalena auditorium, on Pico Island.
According to MiratecArts, it is a show of “physical theatre, without words, that speaks of loneliness and the search for belonging in an increasingly fast-paced and consumerist society that breaks old ties and makes us reconsider the idea or ideal of community”, staged by Ana Brum, with interpretation by Catarina Mota.
The MiratecArts association highlighted that the Azores Fringe is also “an opportunity” to develop “new works of art and installations in the public and educational programme”.
On the other hand, the ‘SHORT@FRINGE’ sessions, short films and videos, are available for other entities to present on their islands, adds MirateArts.
The Azores Fringe Festival schedule can be found at www.azoresfringe.com. The festival can be followed online on the social networks of the MiratecArts association and Azores Fringe. The festival will be happening until 30 June, with the support from the Municipality of Madalena and the Government of the Azores and private entities.
