New Airbnb data shows that searches for places within Portugal are up nearly 30% from last year, especially for Madeira, the Azores, rural areas, and Algarve beaches.
Funchal, Ponta Delgada, Gerês, Albufeira, and Proença-a-Nova are among the top choices for people seeking fresh air and authentic experiences this spring.
Millennials are leading this trend, making up about 70% of family travel searches and 40% of rural destination picks this season.
Generation Z is catching up fast, with their family searches up nearly 30% from 2025. Together, Millennials and Gen Z now plan 80% of Easter trips, focusing on connecting with others and exploring new places across Portugal.
People now put shared experiences first. 60 per cent of searches are for places that fit groups or big families. This Easter, about 35% of trips in Portugal are with friends, and 29% are with family.
This shows that people want to reconnect socially. Payment options like instalments make it easier for families and groups to book the perfect place, whether on the coast in Lourinhã or Cantanhede, or in mountain spots like Seia.
"The Portuguese are looking to disconnect from their routine and enjoy quality time, especially in rural and coastal destinations," explains Jaime Rodríguez de Santiago, Airbnb's general manager for Portugal.
This focus on "simple pleasures"—from the golden beaches of Quarteira and Portimão to the green scenery of São Vicente and Madalena—shows that by 2026, Easter in Portugal will mean fresh air and togetherness, turning inland villages and islands into new tourism hotspots.
