In a note published on its official website, the Government lists, among other measures, "the increase in the subsidy for the solidarity gas cylinder to €25, the creation of an extraordinary support mechanism for professional diesel, and the maintenance of temporary and extraordinary reductions in fuel prices," as the main measures announced.
Co-payment for gas bottles
The subsidy for the solidarity gas cylinder "will be increased to €25 for the next three months, a measure aimed at the most vulnerable families." The Prime Minister says that the measure is approved in a context of "special social sensitivity," at a time when "balance, responsibility and prudence" are needed.
Supporting businesses
Regarding businesses, the measure also includes "the creation of an extraordinary mechanism for professional diesel, applicable to the transport of passengers and goods." In total, a refund of 10 cents per litre will be made, limited to 15,000 litres per vehicle, for three months.
Limiting prices
The Council of Ministers also intends to approve legislation on "price limitations in situations of energy crisis and on the protection of vulnerable consumers, with a guarantee of minimum supply." According to the Prime Minister, as stated on the official government website, these measures are already prepared for application in the current context.
Despite the measures presented bringing some comfort to citizens, Luís Montenegro states that the country cannot "abandon prudence and fall into the temptation of always wanting to please everyone with unsustainable measures."
Positive economic response
The measures mentioned during the bi-weekly debate are due to the international context, marked by the conflict in the Middle East. However, they can only be applied due to "sustained economic growth and the management of public finances over the last two years."
The situation will continue to be monitored, and the Prime Minister states that "in the future, we will update the State's responses as necessary."

Reducing IVA would have a more positive impact on rising prices!
