The decision to extend the deadline was taken by the Secretary of State for Finance, Cláudia Reis Duarte, through an order, taking into account the repercussions of the storms at the beginning of the year on the business sector.

Companies and other entities subject to IRC may submit the return on the Finance Portal "without any surcharges or penalties, until 19 June," said an official source from the ministry that oversees the Tax and Customs Authority (AT).

The extension was decided taking into account that “the anomalous succession of storms” significantly affected “most of the national territory, significantly disrupting the normal course of accounting procedures for closing the 2025 accounts and, consequently, the preparation of the periodic income tax return (Model 22)”, the Ministry of Finance explained to Lusa.

Although the extension is due to storm-related constraints, the new deadline applies to all companies and entities subject to IRC (Corporate Income Tax) with activity in Portugal, whether or not they have been affected by the bad weather.

Without this extension, the deadline for submitting the IRPJ (Corporate Income Tax) return would have been 31 May.

The Model 22 return is the tax document in which companies declare income from the previous year to calculate the tax payable on profits.
