In a statement sent to the Lusa news agency, ULSAC indicated that the opening of the 100 vacancies is related to the reinforcement of “teams and the preparation of the future Central Hospital of Alentejo, currently under construction in Évora”.

Contacted by Lusa, a source from the ULSAC Communication and Marketing Office explained that some of the vacancies are already open, and the applications can be consulted on the local health unit's website, with the remaining vacancies expected to open in the coming days.

In the statement, ULSAC stressed that the vacancies cover various medical specialities, including areas considered relevant to the future activity of the new hospital, such as Pediatric Cardiology, Maxillofacial Surgery and Pediatric Surgery.

Available positions

Dermatovenereology, Infectious Diseases, Stomatology, Medical Genetics, Clinical Haematology, Occupational Medicine, Neuroradiology, Radiology, Radiation Oncology, and Rheumatology are also among the specialities with available positions.

"This is a unique opportunity" for doctors to join "a differentiating clinical project and actively participate in building the future of healthcare in the Alentejo region," highlighted the clinical director for the hospital healthcare area of ULSAC, Teresa Avelar, quoted in the press release.

According to the official, interested clinicians "will have the opportunity to contribute to the implementation and development of new care responses," with "a relevant role in the organisation of teams, definition of operating models, and innovation in the care provided."

Teresa Avelar also considered that "this challenge may be particularly attractive to doctors at the beginning of their careers," as she believes that these professionals "will find conditions for professional growth and clinical differentiation."

Specialist doctors, she said, who “intend to join the National Health Service (SNS) through a stable and long-term contract” may also be pleased with the challenge of joining ULSAC.

“The future Central Hospital of Alentejo will be a structuring infrastructure for the region and for the SNS, whose success will depend on the quality and commitment of the teams that will integrate it,” ULSAC added in the statement.

On 20 March, when the protocol for the construction of the hospital's access roads and infrastructure was signed, the Minister of Health, Ana Paula Martins, revealed that the hospital's construction was then “about 80% complete,” and estimated that the civil construction could be finished in June 2027.

“Then, there are licenses and tests to be done,” she noted, observing that “a hospital of this magnitude needs at least six months of facility testing.”

Ana Paula Martins assured that the project “must be completed, even because of European funds, by the end of 2027”.

New hospital in Alentejo

The Central Hospital of Alentejo is being built on a 75-hectare plot, of which 25 hectares are designated for the hospital unit.

The project foresees a gross construction area of approximately 100,000 square meters, distributed over 10 floors, above and below ground.

The new hospital unit will serve approximately 150,000 inhabitants of the Évora district and approximately 440,000 people throughout Alentejo, working in conjunction with the hospitals of Beja, Portalegre, Elvas and the Alentejo Coast.
