The Commission sent a letter of notification to Portugal and seven other Member States for failing to transpose Directive (EU) 2024/782 on the recognition of professional qualifications in the health sector into national law.
The directive in question updates the minimum training requirements for general care nurses, dentists, and pharmacists to reflect generally recognised scientific and technical progress.
The updates, according to a press release, introduce or develop at EU level training requirements in areas such as e-health, digital technologies, immunology, regenerative medicine, dentistry, biopharmaceuticals, biotechnology, genetics, and pharmacogenomics.
To date, Denmark, Germany, Greece, Croatia, Cyprus, Malta, Austria, and Portugal have not notified the Commission of measures to fully transpose the new rules into national law.
The member states in question have two months to respond.

Tell the EC to go f*** itself

Dear Sirs,
Hello. I'm a Portuguese translator currently based in the UK. I left Portugal, ten years ago, as I had been discriminated against by the Portuguese government for years. I'm refering to the publication by Imprensa Nacional - Casa da Moeda of two French books on Portugal, in French, its authors being Adrian Balbi and Stephane Boisselier . Early in 2008, the then Portuguese prime minister José Sócrates replyed to a complaint made by me about this subject that he couldn't reverse that option since he had no sway on INCM's editorial policy. Pedro Passos Coelho, António Costa and the incumbent prime minister also did nothing to correct that situation to date. I'd be very grateful if you wrote about this subject on your newspaper.
Kind regards,
Miguel Miranda
