This expansion allows for an increase in the number of electronic entry machines and PSP counters. There is also a reinforcement of 48 PSP agents to reduce waiting times for entry into Portugal.
According to Publituris, the Minister of Internal Administration, Luís Neves, refers to the Government's satisfaction, guaranteeing that "the future will be quite different, from North to South of the country, from what our borders have been until now." The Minister also adds that, from July, there will be 360 operational personnel at Portuguese airports, including 140 in Lisbon.
Luís Neves added that "we don't mean that there can't be one or two days when a technological failure might occur."
According to Luís Neves, “we have 18 more positions at the border, we have 14 more e-gates that are being set up. We already have more personnel deployed by the PSP,” as quoted by Publituris. Thus, there are now 34 manual control booths at arrivals and 31 e-gates at Lisbon Airport, with the aim of reducing waiting times.
