"On Monday, we finalised negotiations for the Templar Museum to be built in Soure. It will be designed by a leading figure in Portuguese and world architecture," said Rui Fernandes. He spoke during the presentation of the event "Templar Origins of Soure," which will be held from Friday to Sunday.
The mayor did not reveal the architect's name, citing administrative processes. He assured that the decision is already made.
For Rui Fernandes, this museum project will strengthen the region’s tourism appeal, attract more visitors, and help promote local history and heritage, making it a significant asset for the Municipality of Soure.
"Part of this work will be done by the Metropolitan Region. There is a new strategic path to begin now. We want to help structure regional tourism and add this crucial asset," he said.
The municipality will locate the museum in Soure Castle, also including the Municipal Gallery and two buildings it recently acquired.
"This building will be part of the complex. I believe it will attract national interest for its content and the architect's design," he added.
The mayor expects the museum to be completed during this term. The project will start immediately. After it is designed, the municipality will seek funding and co-financing for its construction.
“It seems crucial to us to establish Soure in what we believe is an indispensable point for understanding Templar history,” he stated.
When the Lusa news agency asked about the investment in the museum, Rui Fernandes declined to give figures, stating that it is still too early to say.
