Claims on social media state the highest winning bid for a horse was €153 and the lowest was €11, meaning the average price for a horse was around €54.
Last week, Lagos council said that the starting price of the bidding was “symbolic” and is no way meant to reflect the animals’ worth.
It is understood some of the horses may have been bought by foreign animal welfare associations and could be heading overseas.
The council saidthe winning bidders would have their properties checked to make sure they are suitable for the horses, and the animals would be moving to their new homes soon.
