The global airline will touch down in Portugal's second-largest city, Porto, for the first time on June 5, 2025, before departing for its hub in Montreal on the same day.
The new international service, which complements existing flights from Lisbon, aims to offer customers easier access to Canada and beyond, while attracting tourists and business travellers to Portugal and the Iberian Peninsula.
Flights on this new summer seasonal route will operate three times a week, departing from Porto every Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday afternoon, arriving in Quebec in just over seven hours.
In the opposite direction, flights depart from Montreal every Monday, Wednesday and Saturday night, arriving in Porto the following morning.
Customers looking to cross the Atlantic in comfort can take advantage of this new service until September 30, 2025, with flights operated by the company’s fleet of A330-300s, offering a choice of Premium Economy and Economy cabins.
Newest route
Jose Antonio Blazquez Ballarin, Air Canada Country Sales Manager for Spain and Portugal, said: “At Air Canada, we are already in the countdown to take-off, preparing to inaugurate our newest route between Portugal and Canada.”
"As the leading airline between Europe and Canada, our mission has been to provide customers with the most convenient connections across the Atlantic, opening up opportunities for tourism and business. This new route demonstrates our commitment to the market."
“With just over two months to go until launch, we are excited to welcome on board not only Porto-based customers, but also those from Galicia and the wider Iberian Peninsula, supporting our existing operations in Barcelona, Lisbon and Madrid.”
Élise Racicot, Ambassador of Canada to Portugal, said: “We are delighted to witness the expansion of Air Canada’s operations in Portugal, especially with the introduction of the new route to Porto. This new air connection will undoubtedly further strengthen the friendship between our two countries, bringing communities closer together and fostering people-to-people and commercial ties that are essential to our bilateral relationship.”
Karen Strougo, Chief Commercial Officer of ANA|VINCI Airports, said: "We welcome Air Canada to Francisco Sá Carneiro Airport – Porto. This new connection is a clear sign of the growing attractiveness of our region, which will see the connectivity between Porto and North America strengthened. The return of an airline of the stature of Air Canada is also a recognition of the work of the teams and the route development strategy of ANA | VINCI Airports, reinforcing the importance and growth of the airport, creating opportunities for passengers and for the economic development of the northern region. Those wishing to take advantage of this new feature can book return flights from Porto for just €388 in Economy class, including taxes and fees, thanks to the airline's recent promotion to celebrate the final countdown**.
Iberian flights
This summer, Air Canada will offer up to 42 weekly flights from the Iberian Peninsula to Canada, including routes from Barcelona, Lisbon and Madrid to Montreal and Toronto, as well as the new Porto-Montreal service.
Customers can also enjoy fast connections to numerous Canadian cities and destinations in the U.S., Caribbean, South America and Mexico through Air Canada's extensive global network.
Additionally, passengers connecting to the US via Air Canada hubs can benefit from the pre-clearance by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, allowing them to enter the country as domestic passengers.

Why is this service ending Sept. 30? With no one going to Florida, I would think Air Canada would be looking to expand winter getaway options.
