“We play at home and we want to win,” Erik ten Hag said. “If this happens, we know that we are in a good position, but nothing is decided.”

Ajax is the overall leader of the group with four points, the same as Bayern Munich, while Benfica is in third place with three points followed by AEK Athens, with no points.

The manager said that he expects Benfica to “play aggressively” but denied that he will have special care in defence to stop the Benfica strikers.

“We must look at ourselves and not at the way our opponent will play,” he said. “We must be prepared, and we are.”

The match between Ajax and Benfica is scheduled for Tuesday at 8 p.m., at Johan Cruijff Arena, and is set to have France’s Ruddy Buquet as referee.
