The problem of the victims who bought commercial paper from GES companies from branches of BES was also the subject of a meeting last Thursday between the Bank of Portugal (BdP), the Portuguese Stock Market Regulator (CMVM) and a government representative.
One day before, the Portuguese prime minster accused the Bank of Portugal of “dragging its heels” with this process saying it was blocking a solution that had already been accepted by the parties involved.
Asked whether the BdP governor, Carlos Costa, should step down, António Costa said the “BdP enjoys independence and the governor enjoys his own statute.
