Emerson Carvalho walked the stretch of cable between the Pedro do Guilhim (a large rock sticking out of the sea just beyond the Nazaré lighthouse) and a cliff overhanging Nazaré’s Norte beach.
To many the stunt may have seemed like a madcap move, but to Emerson Carvalho, it is a sport of balance and a way of life.
Accompanied by a group of friends, the Western Riders group, the Brazilian walked along the wire rope for a good ten metres before being knocked off by a wave.
“It’s a calculated risk; we’re not as crazy as it seems at first glance. In fact, it’s all planned down to the smallest detail”, he told the press.
