According to the authority, the fire that was demanding most manpower is the one in the municipality of Góis, in Coimbra district, which was fought by 241 fire fighters, backed up by 62 vehicles and eight aircraft.

In the municipality of Oliveira de Frades, in Viseu district, another fire continues in a forested area that is being fought by 86 firemen and women, 21 vehicle and four aircraft.

In Castro Daire, also in Viseu district, a brush fire has now been brought under control, but 71 fire fighters are still on the scene, with 17 vehicles and one aircraft.

As in several other European countries, in Portugal last month was the hottest July ever, making for vegetation that is apt to catch fire and burn easily.
