The 56-year-old foreign man was detained at Faro Airport by SEF immigration officers on an Interpol arrest warrant seeking his extradition.
Information from SEF states the man was detained at Faro airport’s border control after arriving on a flight from London Stansted and is wanted by Interpol to fulfil a prison sentence for issuing a high-value cheque that bounced.
The man, whose nationality has not been confirmed, was brought before a judge at Évora court and is being held in custody in that city while the final details of his extradition are completed.
In related news, a Portuguese individual was arrested at Madeira International airport to serve an outstanding three-year prison sentence for crimes of aggravated breach of trust.
The 44-year-old man was intercepted by SEF officers after disembarking a flight from the UK in Funchal, and is wanted as part of judicial proceedings conducted in Vila Nova de Gaia.
The man was taken to Funchal Prison where he will serve the time.
