The former internal affairs minister was questioned under caution and is “accused of facts that could be considered to include the crimes of breach of public duty and traffic peddling” the attorney general’s office said.
On 2 July the attorney general said that the Miguel Macedo would be cautioned when he was heard regarding the Golden Visas.
The police investigation which involved searches and 11 arrests on 18 November 2014 is related with the acquisition of Golden Visas by foreigners who buy homes worth more than €500,000. The suspects are being investigated for giving and accepting bribes, receiving undue benefits, breach of public duty, embezzlement, abuse of power and influence peddling.
The case also involves the former directors of the registrations and notary institute (IRN), António Figueiredo, the former general secretary of the justice ministry, Maria Antónia Anes, the former director of the border agency and various IRN staff members.
