The report on HIV/aids by the Ricardo Jorge National Health Institute said that out of 1,068 new cases of infection of HIV detected in 2017, only 1.8% concerned injecting drug users - a "historic low." The predominant forms of transfer in the cases detected last year were sexual, with heterosexual transmission representing more than half of all cases.
