The Government said in the decree-law published in Diário da República, that "the reduction in the electricity bill" relating to the consumption within the Low Normal Voltage (BTN), will see IVA rates drops from 23% to 13% , in addition this measure is intended to help to achie environmental objectives.

Monthly consumption above that value will continue to be subject to IVA rate of 23%, with the measure in effect on December 1, for most consumers. For large families, with five people or more, will have to wait until March 2021 to have a 13% IVA rate on consumption up to 150 kWh.

"This decree-law takes effect on December 1, 2020, except as regards the increased limit which only takes effect from March 1, 2021", determines the government.
