With the dry and hot weather persisting, the Portuguese Met Office has issued a red alert, the second highest danger level, for Aljezur, Monchique, Silves, Tavira, Castro Marim and Alcoutim.

The remainder of the Algarve has been placed on orange alert with the exception of Lagoa and Vila Real do Santo António, which are on yellow alert.
