The previous blanket ban was initially due to end Tuesday, but an extension of the ban until 20 May was published in the government gazette, with immediate effect.

Sardine fishing will also be limited between 21 May and 31 July. In the bill published yesterday José Apolinário, State Secretary for Fisheries, said the extension is to uphold quotas and limitation commitments made by Portugal and Spain.
