Monchique in the Algarve has once again been issued with a purple fire advisory, the highest on a scale of five, and is joined by several regions in central Portugal.

Portimão, Silves, Loulé, Tavira, Vila do Bispo and Alcoutim in the Algarve have all meanwhile been placed under red alert for the next 24 hours.

Current figures from civil protection units show that there are currently 27 active fires in Portugal being battled by 908 fire-fighters.
