The Commission said the programme included visits to farms and wineries, meetings with winemakers and producers and tastings highlighting the potential of the different kinds of grapes and the profile of the Vinhos Verdes.
It also said that the export market to Russia was recent but has been growing exponentially over the last five years with sales of over €150,000 last year and with Portugal in 10th place as a supplier to that country.
Russia drinks more alcohol per capita than almost any other country and wine consumption is between five and seven litres per person per annum, but these figures are growing with the implementation of wine in the gastronomic culture.
