Heightened security in countries such as Belgium, Germany and Holland has made it more difficult for terrorists to commit attacks there, making Portugal a convenient country to organise crime and infiltrate terrorists, especially with the increase in tourism, Boaz added.

As for preparations to deal with an eventual attack, Portugal is not an easy target, he said, but there were certain things that could be done to prevent one.

He also stated there could never be enough security, and that more was needed every time.
