24 years ago, the 95 registered photographers set off from the facilities of the former “Feu Hermanos” canning factory, a space transformed and opened in 2008 as the Portimão Museum, to record images alluding to the 24 themes chosen by the organisation. During a 24-hour period, between 8pm on March 23 and 8pm on the 24th, they travelled around the city to capture the photos they would submit to the competition.
This year’s proposal is to repeat and remember this. Therefore, in this 25th Photographic Race, participants can register in the “24-hour Modality”, which starts at 8 pm on Friday, May 16, and ends at 8 pm on Saturday, May 17, with the delivery of photos alluding to the 24 proposed themes.
Alternatively, there will be the “12-hour Modality”, which starts at 8 am on Saturday, 17th, and ends at 8 pm on the same day, with the delivery of 12 photos related to the 12 themes.
According to the organization, one of the criteria imposed, in both modalities, is that all records captured cover the geographic area of the Municipality, which includes the parishes of Portimão, Alvor and Mexilhoeira Grande, as had already happened in last year's edition.
At the end, the jury will choose the best sets of 24 and 12 images, awarding distinctions to the top three in each category.
In the “24-hour mode,” there are prizes of €900 (1st place), €550 (2nd) and €350 (3rd). For the “12-hour modality”, prizes of €600 (1st place), €350 (2nd) and €150 (3rd) will be awarded.
As in previous editions, the winning images will later be exhibited in the usual collective exhibition of the Photographic Race, which this year will be inaugurated on December 13th at the Portimão Museum.
Registration for the 25th Photographic Race, organized under the auspices of the Portimão Museum, is open until May 14th.
Participants can register at the Museum reception or online, where the Regulations and participation rules can also be consulted.
