Totalling 17 billion dollars, Portugal is now the fourth among southern European nations in terms of money generated from tourism.
Figures from the World Tourism Organisation, show Spain leads the way in southern Europe, followed by Italy and Turkey.
Overall, China accounted for one-fifth of all global tourism spending.
