Around 40 municipalities in the interior of the North and Center and from the region to the Algarve present a maximum risk of fire, according to the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and the Atmosphere (IPMA).

At maximum risk are municipalities in the districts of Bragança, Guarda, Castelo Branco, Santarém, Portalegre and Faro. More than 50 other municipalities in the districts of Bragança, Vila Real, Viseu, Guarda, Castelo Branco, Leiria, Santarém, Portalegre, Beja and Faro present a very high risk

The entire Alentejo region and around 40 other municipalities in the districts of Vila Real, Porto, Viseu, Coimbra, Leiria, Santarém, Lisbon and Faro present a high risk of fire. The remaining territory presents a moderate and low risk, depending on the region. The fire risk determined by IPMA has five levels, ranging from reduced to maximum. Calculations are obtained from air temperature, relative humidity, wind speed and amount of precipitation in the last 24 hours.

The critical period of fires lasts until the end of September and, until then, it is prohibited to make extensive fires or burning piles without authorization, to use stoves or grills throughout the countryside, and to smoke or make any kind of fire in the forest areas. It is also prohibited to launch balloons by burning fuses or rockets or to carry out work in the forest that could cause sparks.

For today, the IPMA forecasts a small decrease in the minimum temperature and a small increase in the maximum temperature in the Center region. The sky will be temporarily cloudy on the coast north of Cabo Raso, with the possibility of light rain in the Minho and Douro Litoral and the wind will sometimes blow strong in the highlands and coastal strip south of Cabo da Roca. The minimum temperatures will vary between 13º (Bragança, Vila Real, Viseu and Guarda) and 20º (Faro) and the maximum between 19º (Viana do Castelo) and 35º (Faro).
