In reading the judgment, the president of the collective that judged the case indicated that the court disqualified the crime of aggravated homicide, of which the man was accused by the Public Ministry (MP), condemning him for simple homicide.
According to the judge who presided over the collective, the man, a prison guard, aged 52, was also convicted of the other crimes he was accused of, that is, one of domestic violence and another of offense to physical integrity.
The defendant, who was not present at the reading of the judgment because he was in hospital was handed a single sentence of 15 years of effective imprisonment.
The victim, a 45-year-old PSP agent, died at dawn on December 13, 2020, at the Hospital do Espírito Santo de Évora (HESE), hours after being run over by a vehicle allegedly driven by the defendant.
According to the PSP, the agent of the Évora District Command of the Police was not on duty, but at 21:45 on December 12, in Rossio de São Brás, he intervened in a situation of domestic violence, when he then ending up being run over by the alleged aggressor.
15 years? Far too bloody short for killing a man doing his job. Disgusting sentence.
