After voting had concluded the results were in and the socialist PS party have secured a narrow majority in the new parliament, gaining 117 seats, one more than required to form a majority government.
“This is a special night for me,” Costa told jubilant supporters. “The Portuguese have confirmed that they want a Socialist Party government for the next four years … they want stability, certainty and security.”
Of other note in these election results is the rise of the right wing Chega party, jumping from just one seat for founder Andre Venture to 12 in this parliament, now becoming the third most popular political party in this year's election.

How can a party trailing in the polls mysteriously get an absolute majority?

Anyone with a basic college course in “Statistics and Probability”, is keenly aware that public polls are ridiculously flawed and reflect very little of true public opinion. They poll question can be configured to provide an answer that simply provides fuel which sways to one side or the other. Many countries have outlawed public polls in advance of elections; for good reason - they are entirely inaccurate.

Same things happen now in many countries, when results is going in favour or certain partys election computer systems goes offline for 30 minutes then by a miracle result is quite different then 30 minutes before...
