In a statement, the GNR added that the crew was preparing to unload the drug ashore when the authorities arrived at the scene, which caused the suspects to flee on foot, and it was not possible to identify them.
“Following the police action, it was possible to intercept the vessel, which contained approximately 700 kilos of hashish (20 bales), thus preventing the disembarkation of the narcotic product and safeguarding the evidence”, reads the note.
The vessel was detected sailing without lights near the Fuseta bar (Faro district), through the Integrated Surveillance, Command and Control System (SIVICC), which constitutes “suspicious behaviour”, says the GNR.
“Given the suspicions raised, GNR were immediately mobilised to the site, in order to proceed with the approach of the suspicious vessel, which, moments later, entered the fishing port of Fuseta”, continues the note.
Following the action, a report was prepared and the facts were sent to the Department of Investigation and Criminal Action (DIAP) of Faro.
