The number of Portuguese without a family doctor has always
been above one million since the beginning of the year. And since the biggest
competition of the year for the hiring of new specialists has already taken
place, it is not expected that this number will decrease in the short term.
Lisbon and Vale do Tejo continues to be the most dramatic
case: 23.3% of the total registered do not have a family doctor assigned. Next comes
the Algarve, where the percentage of users without a clinician is 15%, followed
by the Alentejo with 12.7%. Doing better are the Center regions, with 7.9%, and
North, with 2%.

Very good article. And when I try to contact the hospital. They tell me to contact my family doctor. That I do not have. And nothing happens.....

Well for that I blame the Health Center and the SNS also . Where I live in Sintra Village they did have the great idea of allowing the people that left to other councils to continue to use the Heath Center of Sintra despite they live in another council out of the area of Sintra . The people that live 12 minutes from this heath center like me I'm oblige to go to Cacem or go to Mem Martins ? This isn't right or even correct doing this. They are asking to people to register in Mem Martins and when their is a vacancy in Sintra they will be saying you are registered in Mem Martins and you can't go to Sintra no tanks . Why I'm oblige to take a train when I live 12 minutes from the health Center ? And the supposed waiting lists that they never inform people about their situation in the supposed list ? The question is this list exist at all ? And they are giving priority to people that don't live in Sintra in the supposed list ? Neither the go see in their data base witch people have the address outside of Sintra and still using the Heath Center and ask them to live and go to the Heath Centres where they live. In the end of the day this is a fantochada they are having a laugh of people and playing up with their heath .If I wasn't seeing a specialist every 6 months in the Santa Maria Hospital in Sintra I was going without any medication and any care since the heath center of Sintra doesn't care for the residents and only cares for people that don't live anymore in Sintra area

You need to register in your Health Center but will not have a family doctor for long time . The only thing you can do is book appointment with any doctor this way you can ask to be refereed to go to the hospital . The other way if you have health insurance you can go to a general GP and they will refer to the hospital
