Revolut has announced that it has reached the level of one
million customers in Portugal, information that was shared during the Web Summit. Cited in a statement, the founder of the digital bank, Nikolay
Storonsky, says that “almost 10% of Portuguese people have a Revolut account”.
“After the launch of Banco Revolut in Portugal, in December
2021, the company recorded remarkable growth during 2022, doubling the number
of customers in this market during the first ten months of the year”, advances
the company.
Fintech “also registered an increase in the use that
Portuguese customers make of its services during the last year”, he added. Card
payments increased by “more than 50%” compared to 2021, while “cross-currency”
transactions (involving two currencies, such as the euro and the dollar) grew
by 58%.
Finally, Revolut states that, “with more than 1,170
employees in the country, Portugal is strengthening its positioning as a strategic
market for the company”.
“Portugal is the second largest country in terms of Revolut
employees, behind only the United Kingdom, where the company is based. The
Matosinhos office continues to be one of the largest technology centres for the
company, which is also one of the largest employers in the region”, concludes
Revolut.

Important to know that the money in your Resolut account is not protected by the UK or Portugal. Resolut has it's banking license in Lithuania, where banks have been warned about possible cyber attacks and power breaks due to the war in Ukraine.

The Revolut bank account is protected accordingly to the EU ruling. 100.000 is the max. Lithuania is part of the European Union. What they offer is a great app. Something all Portuguese banks can learn from. The downside is that the bank card is Lithuanian. Not all shops accept foreign bank cards. This is because they don't want to pay the extra fees that are involved.
