“At the moment, we have the recovery and maintenance plan
for the Leopard 2 tanks in progress and, according to the execution of the
plan, we are in a position to be able to spare three in the month of March and
it is in this sense that we are working”, said António Coast.
The statement, in response to deputy Bernardo Blanco, from
the Liberal Initiative, clarifies the doubts that existed around Portugal's
participation in the international effort to send war tanks to Ukraine, in the
context of the invasion perpetrated by Russia.
Costa responded to deputies in the preparatory debate for
the European Council, which took place this Wednesday afternoon in the Assembly
of the Republic. The two-day European Council starts this Thursday, in Brussels
(Belgium), and, as confirmed by António Costa, will have the special presence
of the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky.
The meeting of European leaders has other issues on the agenda besides the war in Ukraine. The meeting will also serve to discuss the flexibility of State aid to respond to the protectionist measures of the Biden Administration and issues related to migration.
Costa doing what he’s told by EU as usual. I don’t think the Portuguese people voted to go to war but Costa is dragging them in.
Sending 2 x 1970’s tanks also looks pathetically weak.

Costa, just placed Portugal on the Russian Nuclear Radar by sending three more than 30 year old Leopard 2 tanks to the Ukraine. The Russians will use this as target practice, but moreover, will place Portugal, that used to be a neutral country, on the map for the Russians. Thank you prime minister Costa, you just place Portugal at risk!
