The Zarzuela Palace did not explain the reasons for cancelling the visit, which was going to be Zelensky's first bilateral visit to Spain and in which a meeting with the head of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, was planned to sign a security agreement.

Diplomatic sources cited by Efe highlighted that the trip by the President of Ukraine, which was to include Portugal, is due to the complex situation that this country is going through in the face of the Russian offensive after more than two years of war.

The Minister of National Defense, Nuno Melo, had previously confirmed that the visit of the President of Ukraine to Portugal was “being prepared”, without providing further details about the date or program of the trip.

Volodymyr Zelensky's visit to Portugal was announced on Monday by SIC, in a visit by the Ukrainian head of state that included the signing of bilateral security agreements.
