In a statement, the Food and Economic Security Authority (ASAE) says that this week it carried out a surveillance operation, called "Sleep Safe", aimed at local accommodation, which took place in historic areas of the cities of Porto, Viana do Castelo, Coimbra , Póvoa do Varzim, Peso da Régua, Aljezur, Albufeira, Lisbon, Évora, Viseu, Covilhã, Viseu, Santarém and Vila Real.

According to ASAE, the purpose of the operation was to verify “compliance with the specific legal rules to which these infrastructures are bound” to guarantee the “health and safety” of users.

ASAE specifies that 192 economic operators were inspected and the activity suspension of 10 local accommodations was determined due to a lack of safety and hygiene requirements.
