Monday was the hottest ever measured in world terms, surpassing the average bar of 17 degrees centigrade (ºC) for the first time, according to the first measurements made by a North American agency.

The average daily air temperature on the planet's surface on July 3 was measured at 17.01°C by a service dependent on the US Agency for Atmosphere and Oceans (NOAA). This value surpasses the previous daily record (16.92°C) set on July 24, 2022, according to data from NOAA's National Environmental Prediction Centers, which date back to 1979.

The air temperature, which fluctuates between about 12°C and 17°C in terms of a daily average throughout the year, was 16.20°C in early July between 1979 and 2000. This record, which has yet to be corroborated by other measurements, can be quickly overcome, when the Northern Hemisphere begins the summer season and the average world temperature continues to rise as a rule until the end of July, the beginning of August.

In early June, average world temperatures were the hottest ever recorded in the period by the European service Copernicus, beating previous records by a “substantial margin”.
