Contacted by the Lusa agency, captain Silva Lampreia said that the river beach of Argaçosa, a supervised bathing area, and the beach of Lumiar (maritime, unsupervised) are not recommended for bathing.

The decision, articulated with the health delegate, the Chamber of Viana do Castelo and the captaincy, was taken following the analyses carried out regularly on the municipality's river and sea waters which revealed a "parameter outside the quality framework", related to the presence of the bacteria 'Escherichia coli'.

According to Captain Silva Lampreia, “Both beaches do not have a blue flag”.

The person in charge added that, in the case of the Argaçosa River beach, because it is supervised, the red flag was hoisted.

On Lumiar Beach, in Carreço, signs were posted advising against swimming in the sea.
