Employment in Portugal also reached its highest level since 2005.

“The OECD employment rate and labour force participation rate stood at 70.1% and 73.7% in the second quarter of 2023, the highest levels since the series began in 2005 and 2008, respectively.”

Among the 38 countries that make up the OECD, 19 registered records in both indicators, including Portugal.

In the case of employment in Portugal, between April and June, the rate rose to 72.4%, above the 71.8% recorded in the previous quarter and the 71.6% recorded a year ago.

“In the second quarter of 2023, the employment rate exceeded 70% in more than two-thirds of OECD countries, reaching record values in the eurozone and the European Union as a whole”, highlights the OECD.

In contrast, there was a retreat in seven countries that make up this organisation. Turkey recorded the highest employment rate among OECD countries, standing at 53.6%.

Along with Portugal, France, Italy and Japan also recorded peaks in employment and participation in the labour force, highlighting the OECD.
