In the EU, the number of commercial flights increased by 7.9% in September to 605,806, compared to the same month in 2023, but is still 8.9% below pre-Covid-19 pandemic levels.
According to the EU statistical service, the same year-on-year trend was observed in June (6.9%), July (7.4%) and August (6.6%), but below the 2019 values: -10, 4%, -9.0% and -8.5%, respectively.
According to the EU statistical service, only six Member States have already exceeded the number of flights compared to September 2019 (before the Covid-19 pandemic), with Greece leading the way (10.9%), followed by Portugal (9.0%), Cyprus (5.9%), Croatia (2.6%), Ireland (1.4%) and Malta (0.7%).
In contrast, Latvia (-30.4%), Finland (-30.2%), Estonia (-25.4%), Sweden (-24.1%) and Slovenia (-22.9%) are the countries further away from 2019 values.
Each flight uses at least 50,000 liters of kerosene. I thought the EC had a climate plan to emit less CO2. Air traffic causes the most CO2 pollution! Is that still possible these days????
